Artist Statement

I have lived around water my whole life and feel a great energy from it.

When I first started working with glass, I was fascinated with
its free form and liquid feeling, yet one can control it.

I love working the colors, and never get tired of playing with diffent combinations and designs and how two pieces are never the same even if I try.

With glass, there are endless possibilities and that is intriguing.

My family and I spend most of our free time outside, hiking or being around water as much as we can and that is where I find my inspiration for my pieces, every season has its own beautiful color spectrum.

Flameworking Process

To create the pieces, I use a torch, both an "old school" National torch and a newer Phantom, they have different abilities but I like them both.

The torch is run with propane and oxygen. I work mostly in solid borosilicate glass and colored boro from different companies, like Northstar, Glass Alchemy and Trautman. A kiln is needed to anneal the finished pieces in and to keep them warm while working on bigger pieces too.

Protective eyewear is a must and grafite tools, reamers, paddles, tongs and tweezers and many other homemade and found tools too, like butterknifes and stamps. And last but not least, good ventilation!
